What is Wordle?

Wordle is a word-guessing game where you have six attempts to find a hidden five-letter word. After each guess, the game tells you which letters are in the word and where: green means the letter is correct and in the right place, yellow means the letter is in the word but in another spot, and gray means the letter is not in the word. Using these clues, you eliminate possibilities until you find the answer—or run out of guesses.

How to Play

1. Guess a word – Type any valid five-letter word and press Enter (or tap Submit). You can use the on-screen keyboard or your physical keyboard.
2. Read the clues – Each letter in your guess is colored:
   • Green – This letter is in the word and in this position.
   • Yellow – This letter is in the word but in a different position.
   • Gray – This letter is not in the word.
3. Use the clues – Your next guess should use green letters in the same spots, move yellow letters to new positions, and avoid gray letters.
4. Win or lose – You win by guessing the word before your sixth try. If you don’t, the game reveals the answer and you can try again with a new word.

Only words in the game’s dictionary are accepted. If your guess isn’t valid, the row will shake and you can change it before submitting again.

Strategy Tips

• Start with a strong first word – Use a word with common letters (e.g. E, A, R, T, O) to get as much information as possible.
• Use greens as anchors – Once a letter is green, keep it in that position in later guesses.
• Move yellows – A yellow letter must appear somewhere else; try it in different spots in the next guess.
• Avoid grays – Don’t reuse letters that are gray unless you’re testing something specific.
• Watch for double letters – The same letter can appear twice in the word; the game will show multiple greens or yellows if so.
• Narrow with vowels – If you’re stuck, try a word that tests several remaining vowels or common consonants.

Daily Wordle Mode Explained

In Daily mode, everyone gets the same secret word for that calendar day. The word is chosen in a deterministic way from the date (e.g. hashed), so it’s the same for all players until the next day. You can play it once per day; after that, you can switch to Random mode for more puzzles.

In Random mode, a new word is picked at random each time you start or restart a game, so you can play as many times as you like.
