Overview

Reduce the file size of a PDF by re-rendering each page as a compressed image and rebuilding the document — entirely in your browser. Works especially well on scanned documents and image-heavy PDFs.

How it works

Each page is rendered to a canvas at your chosen resolution, then re-encoded as a JPEG at your chosen quality, and reassembled into a new PDF. Lowering the resolution and quality reduces file size further.

Important trade-off

This method rasterizes every page into an image. Text will no longer be selectable, searchable, or copyable in the compressed output — the page will look the same, but it becomes a picture of the page rather than live text. This is the right trade-off for scanned documents (which are already images) and is a common technique used by online PDF compressors, but if you need to preserve selectable text, this isn't the right tool — try re-exporting from the original source document with a lower image quality setting instead.

How to use this tool

1. Upload a PDF.
2. Choose a quality preset (or fine-tune resolution and JPEG quality).
3. Click Compress and compare the new file size.
4. Download the compressed PDF.
